Copyright
All material on this site and in the Roll of Scottish Barons — including the text, entry descriptions, biographical and genealogical particulars, page design, and the selection, arrangement and presentation of the register as a whole — is the copyright of the Baronage of Scotland Association unless otherwise stated. It may not be copied, reproduced, republished, distributed or adapted without our prior written permission.
The Association claims no copyright in the coats of arms, or in photographs and images of individuals, shown on the Roll; these remain the property of their respective owners and will be removed on reasonable request.
Database rights
The Roll is a database. The Baronage of Scotland Association is the maker of, and owns the database right in, the Roll under the Copyright and Rights in Databases Regulations 1997, having made a substantial investment in obtaining, verifying and presenting its contents. The extraction and/or re-utilisation of the whole or any substantial part of the contents of the Roll — by manual or automated means — is prohibited, as is the repeated and systematic extraction of insubstantial parts.
Prohibited uses
Without our prior written consent you must not:
- copy, scrape, harvest, index, mirror or systematically download any part of the Roll or this site, whether by automated or manual means;
- reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to derive the structure, schema or underlying database of the Roll or this site;
- reproduce, republish or redistribute any entry or particulars, in whole or in part;
- use the contents to build, populate, verify or train any other register, database, directory or dataset; or
- present our content as your own, or in any way that implies endorsement or affiliation.
Permitted use
You may view the Roll for personal, non-commercial reference, and you may link to its pages.
Trade marks
“Baronage of Scotland Association”, “The Roll of Scottish Barons”, the emblem of “The Roll of the Baronage of Scotland”, and the domains “Baronage.com”, “Baronage.net” and “Baronage.org” are marks of the Baronage of Scotland Association and may not be used without permission.
By contrast, the Association regards “Baronage”, “Baronage of Scotland” and “The Roll” as common, descriptive terms — part of the shared heritage of the Scottish baronage — that should remain free for all and should not be registered as a trade mark by any entity, including the Association itself.
Enforcement
We monitor for unauthorised copying and reserve all rights and remedies available to us, including under copyright and database-right law.
