Baron of Horsbrugh

Authenticated Baron🛡️ Hereditary Title

The Much Honoured Baron of Horsbrugh (Michael John Baylis Chenery of Horsbrugh, Baron of Horsbrugh, representer of the House of Chinnery of the lands of Whitehope)

Credentials

  • Rolls of the Chiefs and Heads of Territorial Houses, Officially-Recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms 15th May 1995 (LXXVIII 41), EDINBURGH GAZETTE 4th July 1997
  • Burke’s Peerage, 107ed. Burke's Peerage (Genealogical Books) Ltd, 2003, p. 1965 column 2
  • Burke's Peerage lists the brother as yr heir-presumptive. Scottish practice allows the style Younger/Master/Mistress of X to an heir presumptive as well as to an heir apparent; for example, the brother of the present Marquess of Tweeddale, Lord Alistair Hay, has the title Master of Tweeddale. Lost if a heir-apparent arises.
  • PLEDGED HEREDITARY TITLE, baronies held across generations are treated by the Roll, for its own purposes, as de facto hereditary and dynastic. The title becomes unrecognised by the Roll if the barony is later conveyed outside the family, in accordance with Roll policy.
